I've never found a useful agent harness which works well (or at all, actually) on Windows 7 or other old Windows versions, especially the 32 bit varieties. I support a fleet of ancient machines, so need an agent that works on those old computers. That's why I compiled this Nullclaw executable:

This additional version for Windows 8 (and newer) was a precursor to the version above. It has some features such as emoji support (which is not available in Windows 7), and it's a single standalone file (the win7 zip above includes a matched version of curl, which isn't provided by default, as needed in Window 7):

Nullclaw is a tiny agent harness (a tool like Pi, Hermes, etc.), which doesn't require any installation or prerequisite framework infrastructure. Just download, unzip, and run nullclaw.exe in CMD.

Nullclaw is so small that it appears to be a toy, but I've used it previously on new machines, to complete significant production work. Remember, what matters most is the intelligence and capability of the LLM you connect with. The tiny 4Mb zip file above is all that's required to get a real, production ready agent running on old 32-bit machines. It's not pretty to work in old CMD, but it gets a smart LLM working on your machine, and that's what enables you to get IT tasks completed faster on those machines - or to use those old machines to build software, create content, etc.

To start using Nullclaw, just set up a provider API key (for Openrouter, OpenAI, Anthropic, etc)., set up a model, and begin commanding your agent. For the win7 version above, I even built in support for the modern tool call format returned by Deepseek v4.1 Flash. You will see some funny looking characters printed to the console during tool cools, but output meant for human reading is clear (to clear up any other random odd output, put a line in your agents.md, or directly in your conversation, to not output emojis).

To manually configure any Nullclaw setting, edit config.json in the .nullclaw/ subfolder of your main user directory (something like C:\Users\Owner.nullclaw). The agents.md, soul.md, and other state files are in the \state subfolder of that directory.

Here are some command line options to automatically configure Nullclaw, and to run it:

# Quick setup
~$ nullclaw onboard --api-key sk-... --provider openrouter
# Or interactive wizard
~$ nullclaw onboard --interactive
# Chat
~$ nullclaw agent -m "Hello, nullclaw!"
# Interactive mode
~$ nullclaw agent
# Start gateway runtime (gateway + all configured channels/accounts + heartbeat + scheduler)
~$ nullclaw gateway # default: 127.0.0.1:3000
~$ nullclaw gateway --port 8080 # custom port
# Check status & diagnostics
~$ nullclaw status
~$ nullclaw doctor

It's very cool to see new models running directly on machines from 17 years ago - not just in a browser window, displaying a remotely running agent (as with pi-web, though I absolutely love that tool), but actually executing on your local hardware, able to configure your OS, write & execute code, install & troubleshoot software, and perform any other task you need on-device.

Nullclaw is so small that it seems like it must be a toy, but I've actually used it to complete significant production work in the past. The tiny 4Mb zip file above is all that's required to get a real, production ready agent running on those old machines. Just set up a provider like Openrouter, OpenAI, Anthropic, etc., set a model, and go for it. I even built in support for the modern tool call format returned by Deepseek v4.1 Flash.

It's damn cool to see new models running directly on machines from 17 years ago - not just in a browser window (as I've demonstrated with pi-web (I absolutely love that tool)), but actually running on the hardware, able to configure the OS, write & execute code, install software, and perform any other task you need, on the local device.

I need to perform agentic work on old Windows computers, to help with IT support on a fleet of old machines. I haven't ever found any useful agent harnesses which really work on Windows 7 or in any 32 bit Windows versions, so I compiled this Nullclaw executable:

This version for Windows 8 and up was a precursor - it has some features like emoji support (which is not available in Windows 7), and it's a single standalone file (the win7 zip above includes a matched version of curl, which isn't provided as needed in Window 7):

Nullclaw is a tiny agent harness (a tool like Pi), which doesn't require any installation. Just download and run it at the command line.
